UNESCO & UiTM Training The Trainers in Information Literacy Regional Workshop

INTRODUCTION

Recognizing the significance of information literacy in developing a competitive workforce and building knowledge societies, the Faculty of Information Management, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) in collaboration with UNESCO is organizing the 2008 Workshop Training The Trainers in Information Literacy.

It is aimed for educators and librarians who are or will be involved in imparting the information literacy skills to their students and users of information. The workshop will take place at a beach resort in Port Dickson, Malaysia from the 11-14 August 2008. We are cordially inviting interested participants to join the workshop by sending in their application form.

 

AIM

The aim of the workshop is to provide trainers and potential trainers of information literacy with comprehensive and up to date knowledge regarding information literacy.

At this workshop they will discuss and share experiences on information literacy learning and teaching, strategies, evaluation, implementation and current issues.

 

OUTCOMES OF THE WORKSHOP

Upon completion of the workshop participants will have the foundation needed to:

  1. Design an appropriate information literacy program to be implemented at individual organization.
  2. Apply information literacy concepts in daily practice among students or communities whom they serve.
  3. Conduct information literacy courses with better understanding of its pedagogy and effectiveness.
