Dato’ Dr. Zaiton Osman
is the Library consultant at the Open University Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia. She was the chief librarian of the University of Malaya for
more than a decade. During her administration as chief librarian, she
instituted a formal user education program. The course has been incorporated
into the undergraduate curriculum and accepted by the Senate as a compulsory
one-credit university course.
Her professional involvement
at the national level includes serving as joint chairperson of the Working
Group in the National Digital Library System as well as member of the
Implementation Committee of the National Digital Library System. In 1983
she became president of the Library Association of Malaysia. Her dedication
and contribution to librarianship had earned her several awards, the latest
being from the Congress of Southeast Asian Librarians (CONSAL) as Outstanding
Librarian 2003.
Professor Dr Szarina Abdullah is currently attached to the Faculty
of Information Management, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Shah Alam. She
has been servicing UiTM since January 1975, in various capacities.Her
administrative experiences included those of Dean, Centre for Graduate
Studies, Assistant Rector, Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Distance Education
and Flexible Learning), Assistant Director (Academic), Head of School
of Library & Information Science, and Course Leader of the School
of Library & Information Science.
She has conducted workshops for lecturers, librarians and managers
of information organizations in Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam. During
2003-2004, she led a team of researchers from UiTM to conduct a national
bibliometric study of Malaysia’s S&T knowledge productivity
for the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Malaysia. Findings
from this comprehensive study have implications for S&T policy makers,
university administrators, researchers, and academics engaged in R&D
activities, and were tabled to the Cabinet in August 2004.
Associate
Professor Norma Abu Seman
A senior lecturer from the Faculty of Information Management, Universiti
Teknologi MARA,Shah Alam, Selangor. She has served as Course Tutor (Head
of Programme) and as Dean of the Faculty. Her areas of specialization
are Special and Academic Library Management, School Resource Centre
Management, Reference and Information Works, Government Information,
Information Literacy and Issues in Information Society.
She has presented papers locally and abroad. She is a life member of
Persatuan Pustakawan Malaysia (PPM) and has served PPM in several capacities
as Vice President 1, Chairman of Special Library Committee, member of
the School Library Committee and several other committees. She has served
in a National Committee on the Development of Government Information
Classification Scheme. Her past research are; UiTM-UNESCO Manpower Studies
of Libraries, Archives and information Agencies in Malaysia, Research
on the Provision of Health and Therapeutics Information Services in
Malaysia.
